Saroyan Days 2025 was a week-long cultural festival held in Yerevan, Armenia, honoring the legacy of William Saroyan. Co-hosted by the William Saroyan Foundation, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, and the United States Embassy in Armenia, the festival embraced the full breadth of Saroyan's creative life — his work as a short story writer, novelist, playwright, screenwriter, and visual artist. But more than any single medium, what animated Saroyan Days was the spirit Saroyan himself embodied: humanity, optimism, humor, and hope.

Book Release
22 Unpublished Short Stories

A new collection, Twenty-Two Unpublished Short Stories, was launched at the National Gallery of Armenia. Published in Armenian, the volume was introduced at an event featuring remarks by the collection's curator, Scott Setrakian; publisher Armen Martirosyan, CEO of Antares Ltd.; and distinguished Saroyan translator Zaven Boyajyan. The program opened with a reading by acclaimed Armenian actor Andranik Mikayelyan.

As the title suggests, the volume brings together 22 previously unpublished stories. Drawn from archival materials at Stanford University, the collection spans the full arc of Saroyan's career—from 1934, when he announced himself with The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze, to 1977, two years before Obituaries, widely regarded as his late-life summation. These stories expand the Saroyan canon in meaningful ways, enriching our understanding of the man and the full range of his voice.

Malyan Theater
Train Stories

The Malyan Theatre presented Train Stories — a lively stage adaptation of five Saroyan short stories — to a sold-out house. Co-sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and the William Saroyan Foundation, the evening was welcomed by U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien.

The award-winning production brilliantly weaves together elements of Old Country Advice to the American Traveller, The Ping-Pong Players, The Genius, The Poor and Burning Arab, and The Barber Whose Uncle Had His Head Bitten Off by a Circus Tiger.

Theater on the Roof
Mama I love You

Theater on the Roof, Armenia's innovative alternative theatre and self-described "first rooftop theater in the world," presented its stage production of Mama I Love You — an adaptation drawing from both Saroyan's novel of the same name and its companion, Papa You're Crazy. Together, the two books chronicle the lives of recently divorced parents and their children through stories that are at once touching, sad, comical, and hopeful. Theater on the Roof has woven them into a single, seamlessly integrated work.
